Overview
The FC-28 Soil Moisture Sensor is a widely used, low-cost electronic module designed to measure the volumetric water content in soil. It operates on the resistive measurement principle: as moisture content in the soil increases, its electrical conductivity increases (resistance decreases). Conversely, dry soil exhibits high electrical resistance.
The sensor assembly consists of two main components:
• Soil Probe: A two-pronged PCB probe inserted directly into the soil to detect electrical conductivity changes.
• Control Module: Built around the LM393 low-power dual voltage comparator IC, featuring an adjustable potentiometer for threshold sensitivity, dual output pins (Analog & Digital), and power/status LED indicators.
